  39. How to Install OS/2 Desktop Driver & WIN-OS/2 Full-Screen Session

  42. 1.  Make sure the 7543 OS/2 Driver disk is labeled "DISP" by using DOS
  43.     Label command (C:\DOS\LABEL A: or B:).
  44. 2.  Install OS/2 v2.1 (if not already installed) and select "VGA" as the 
  45.     primary display adapter during installation. Do not select "Cirrus Logic" 
  46.     because it currently only suppports Cirrus Logic desktop products.
  47. 3.  Insert the Cirrus Logic 7543 OS/2 Driver disk into the floppy drive.
  48. 4.  Open an OS/2 Full-Screen session.
  49. 5.  Change the prompt to the floppy drive which contains the driver disk.
  50. 6.  Invoke the OS/2 batch file CLINST21.CMD using OS/2 boot drive, without 
  51.     a colon, as the parameter ([A:\]CLINST21 C).
  52. 7.  Select the primary display type and "Cirrus Logic 7543 Panel/CRT driver".
  53. 8.  If you plan to start out on Panel or SimulSCAN display, choose 640x480
  54.     resolution or 800x600 only if the panel supports SVGA.
  55. 9.  Follow the applicable directions as they appear on screen.

  62. How to Change Screen Refresh Rates in OS/2 Desktop
  63. --------------------------------------------------

  65. 1.  During the driver installation process the Monitor Configuration/
  66.     Selection Utility dialog box will appear and display the following
  67.     choices:
  68.     (1) Default Monitor Type - this choice will use the monitor default
  69.     settings.
  70.     (2) Display Adapter Utility Program - with the aid of an application
  71.     program such as CLMODE.EXE, this choice allows the user to set various
  72.     screen refresh rates on all resolutions supported by their monitor.
  73.     A dialog box will appear asking for the location and name of
  74.     the utility program.
  75.  
  76.     For example:
  77.     c:\vgautils\clmode.exe t640=75 t800=70 t1024=72 t1280=87
  78.  
  79.     CLMODE.EXE comes with the DOS Drivers Disk
  80.     The new settings will be saved to the BIOS and OS/2 will invoke
  81.     SVGA.EXE to create a new SVGADATA.PMI file.  The .PMI file will contain
  82.     the screen refresh rates chosen from the utility program.

  84. How to Change Resolution & Colors in WIN-OS/2 Full-Screen Session

  86. If you are running OS/2 2.1:
  87.  
  88.    1. Open Win-OS/2 Full-Screen session.
  89.    2. Select File from drop-down menu in Windows Program Manager.
  90.    3. Insert the GD7543 Windows Driver disk into A: or B: and run 
  91.       INSTALL.EXE.
  92.    4. At the end of the installation, a VGAUTIL group will be created and the
  93.       WinMode utility will pop up.  Make sure you click the "OS/2-Windows" 
  94.       option in the Operating System group in WinMode if it is not already 
  95.       selected. The other choices in WinMode is up to user's preference.
  96.  
  97. If you are running OS/2 2.1 for Windows:
  98.  
  99.    1. If you have already installed the WinMode utility from the Windows 
  100.       driver disk v1.00, make sure you select "OS/2-Windows" option if not 
  101.       already set.  You can change color/resolution just like you do it in 
  102.       pure Windows environment.
  103.    2. If you haven't installed the GD7543 Windows Drivers previously, follow
  104.       the steps listed in "If you are running OS/2 2.1" section above.
  105.  
  106. Special Case when running OS/2 2.1 for Windows
  107. ----------------------------------------------
  108. If you are running OS/2 2.1 for Windows and have installed the Cirrus 
  109. Logic OS/2 drivers and wish to switch between OS/2 and Windows running
  110. under DOS, the following changes must be made.
  111.  
  112. Return to Windows running under DOS from OS/2:
  113.  
  114.    1. Boot to DOS from OS/2 Desktop (click Dual-boot icon).
  115.    2. Bring up Windows and click on WinMode (utility that comes with GD7543
  116.       Windows Driver Disk and need to run Install from that diskette to copy 
  117.       it over).
  118.    3. Select "DOS-Windows" option in the Operating System group in WinMode 
  119.       if it is not already selected.
  120.    4. If you are not using WinMode (highly recommended), open the 
  121.       WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI and delete the line "OS2vers=21" in [CLVGA] 
  122.       session if it exists.

  124. Return to OS/2 from Windows running under DOS:
  125.  
  126.    1. Before you boot to OS/2 (boot /os2) from DOS, bring up Windows and 
  127.       click on WinMode (utility that comes with GD7543 Windows Driver Disk 
  128.       and need to run Install from that diskette to copy it over).
  129.    2. Select "OS/2-Windows" option in the Operating System group in WinMode 
  130.       if it is not already selected.
  131.    3. If you are not using WinMode (highly recommended), open the 
  132.       WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI and add the line "OS2vers=21" in [CLVGA] 
  133.       session if it does not exist.
  134.    4. Then boot to OS/2 (boot /os2).

  137. Outstanding OS/2 v2.1x 754x Driver Issues:
  138. ------------------------------------------
  139.  
  140. -A vertical line will randomly appear about 2 inches from the left or right
  141.  edge of the screen when using the Enhanced Text Editor from the 
  142.  Productivity folder.
  143.  
  144. -The color of an OS/2 desktop bitmapped background gets corrupted after
  145.  using the Enhanced Editor from the Productivity folder.  This problem
  146.  happens randomly & is not easily reproduced.
  147.  
  148. -The OS/2 desktop gets corrupted when dragging and dropping the File
  149.  Manager window around the PM desktop.
  150.  
  151. -The Win-OS/2 desktop will get corrupted when moving the System Clock
  152.  window around.  Also, opening the File Manager then scrolling through
  153.  the files will cause the text to get corrupted.

  155. -Hot-key display switching in DSTN panel shows yellow screen in panel.
